Explore the Great Outdoors in Hattiesburg

Summer is the time to enjoy the outdoors, and spending time outside is a great way to practice social distancing. So put on your walking shoes or pack up your tent to explore the incredible green spaces of you can find outdoors in Hattiesburg, MS. Make sure to use proper sun protection and have enough water to keep hydrated on these excursions, and bring a mask in case you do pass someone on the trails. Here’s how to best enjoy the great outdoors near our apartments in Hattiesburg

The Longleaf Trace 

The Longleaf Trace is a 44-mile trail system in Southern Mississippi. It is the premier destination for walking, running, hiking and horse-riding, and it has access points just 10 minutes from our Hattiesburg apartments. Please follow the rules when using this beautiful resource. The Longleaf Trace is a great destination for a day trip, or you can further extend your nature experience by camping. Here are three of the sites currently open: 

Paul B. Johnson State Park 

About twenty minutes from Longleaf Trace gateway, Paul B. Johnson State Park is a natural wonderland adorned with delicate dogwoods, ancient oaks, and the majestic longleaf pines. It features the 225-acre freshwater Geiger Lake. There are all kinds of water activities available at this tent and RV campsite. 

Carson Station 

This campsite, located near the mile marker 35 on the Longleaf Trace, offers a quieter scene for campers. It still has some amenities, though, if you don’t want to completely rough it. Carson Station offers restroom facilities, BBQ grills, picnic tables, and water troughs. 

Denbury Beaver Pond 

This primitive campsite can be accessed via the trail at mile marker 13 off the Longleaf Trace. The area has about 12 acres of natural wonderland which when fully developed will feature an amphitheater and equestrian trails around the pond. The trails are great for mountain biking and horseback riding.
