This Coen Brothers comedy follows three escaped members of a Mississippi chain gang. Starring George Clooney and John Turturro, the film portrays the Depression-era through a comedic lens. It’s available for your viewing pleasure on Amazon Prime.¬†


Fans of Mary J. Blige are sure to enjoy Mudbound. In fact, Blige earned the film two Oscar nominations, for best supporting actress as well as best original song. Despite being filmed mostly in Louisiana, the 2017 movie tells of racial tensions in rural Mississippi after World War II. Dial it up on Netflix today. 

The Help

2011’s The Help starred Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark, a black maid in 1960s Mississippi. Much of the movie was filmed on location in Jackson and Greenwood. Additionally, Davis received the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for best actress for her role in the film. Octavia Spencer also won an Oscar for best-supporting actress. The movie is available to stream on Netflix, iTunes, and more.
