2011’s The Help starred Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark, a black maid in 1960s Mississippi. Much of the movie was filmed on location in Jackson and Greenwood. Additionally, Davis received the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for best actress for her role in the film. Octavia Spencer also won an Oscar for best-supporting actress.
