It’s one of our favorite times of the year! Day by day, the air is becoming cooler, and the local hiking scene is becoming more and more appealing. If you’re in the mood to get outdoors and enjoy nature, check out some of these excellent hiking spots near our apartments in Hattiesburg, MS:
Paul B. Johnson State Park
Enjoy a stroll through the piney woods in this local spot, which also features a gorgeous lake. The Paul B. Johnson State Park provides a scenic as well as a quiet location for a casual hike. So bring a picnic basket and enjoy a fresh-air feast in the great outdoors! If you leave home early in the morning, you might also be lucky enough to catch sight of the majestic sunrise over the tops of the longleaf and loblolly pines.
Lake Thoreau Environmental Center
This network of nature preserves offers plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs and get outside. One of the main preserves, Eubanks, is open to the public on the weekends. You’ll also have plenty of space to roam through the pines on over 131 acres of land. The other main preserve, the Longleaf Preserve, is open to the public on a daily basis. It’s also here that you can find an amazing homage to the stately pine trees native to our landscape, with plenty of space for a long hike.
Beverly Hills Walking Trail
It’s not that Beverly Hills, but it’s our own Beverly Hills! This place has plenty of space for a refreshing walk on a paved trail. The park is maintained by the city, and features some scenic rolling greens, along with a beautiful bridge over which to stroll.
