Take a Virtual Tour the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art

If you enjoy discovering unique artworks, don’t miss a virtual tour of the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art. Located in Biloxi, it showcases the work of famed potter George Ohr. He called himself the “Mad Potter of Biloxi,” and was a pioneer of the modernist movement. To learn about his storied life, here are three fascinating exhibits you can explore from our apartments in Hattiesburg:

Ohr Pottery

George Ohr became interested in pottery at a young age. He trained with masters and created one-of-a-kind objects that have proven impossible to replicate. George’s work didn’t gain much attention during his lifetime. But today, he is internationally known for his creativity and eccentric personality. As you scroll through the Ohr Pottery exhibit, you will discover some of his most impressive creations.

Ohr Archives

The Ohr Archives features objects that offer a glimpse into Ohr’s life, both personal and professional. You’ll see things such as letters, art show advertisements, and the silver medal he won at the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904. The exhibit also features a photograph of George’s studio, which he built in a pagoda-like style and painted bright pink. People on the Gulf Coast reported seeing the top of it from miles away.

Ohr Photographs

George was easily recognized by his mustache, for which he is still known today. Ohr Photographs focuses on his style, family life, and impressive works. It also features quotes from George and reveals that he asked his heirs to keep his pottery until fifty years after his death in 1918.
